On Tuesday 7 October the Eltham College Economics and Business Society welcomed its first external speaker of the year. Rosie Wakeling an OE who left in 2008, now working for Accenture, a consultancy firm that operates in over 56 countries and employs over 280,000 people.

Rosie presented a stimulating talk on the life of a consultant having spent time in Manila and other exotic locations in order to complete projects for the firm, working alongside senior management teams. One particular project that interlinked well with the current A level course was that Accenture helped with the streamlining of the benefits systems, developing the technology to make it possible whilst dealing with the ever changing politics.

The versatility of working for such a firm captured the interest of the audience as Rosie described how Accenture were involved in everything from providing the statistics for the 6 Nations rugby to developing technologies for the NHS and consulting the management of the Royal Bank of Scotland. Rosie also introduced a range of different programs that Accenture on offer to both Graduates and school leavers.

There is also ‘Horizon’, an eight month paid placement offered by Accenture for gap year students, giving them a chance to gain some excellent work experience, earn a salary and travel before starting university.

A big thank you to Rosie for the time and effort she put in talking to the Society!
