OE Jack Miller - Director-In-Residence

Monday, 7 September, 2015 -- Helen Wilson

Returning to school for the beginning of term in September felt at once very routine and yet entirely alien. I joined Eltham College in 2004 at the age of seven. During my time here, drama has been the source of many rewarding experiences. From my first leading role in The Rocky Monster Show to my final performance in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I have been able to develop both as an actor and a person. By July 2015, after eleven formative years, it was finally time to become a ‘Leaver’. Except it wasn’t!

After deciding to take a gap year, Head of Drama, Kerry Robinson, suggested the idea of taking up a role as Director-in-Residence. I could not refuse such a rare opportunity and, after submitting a proposal to the Headmaster, I now find myself a member of staff!

My first big task is a production of Richard III, which will take place in March 2016. I will also be co-directing Lord of the Flies in the summer, along with other responsibilities such as running the Drama Club and providing guidance for pupils organising their House Drama performances.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have this fantastic opportunity in my twelfth and final year at Eltham.
