Eltham College Centenary Campaign Launch

Friday, 22 November, 2013 -- Helen Wilson

In 2011 the Eltham College Governors commissioned a report by a firm of architects, Barnsley Hewett and Mallinson, which highlighted the growing pressure on teaching space throughout the Senior School site. In particular the report identified the need for an extra Biology laboratory, an increased number of Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages classrooms, a permanent residence for Latin, and a larger purpose-built Sixth Form Centre. These are the issues that the development plans seeks to address. It must be stressed that these proposals are not an indication that the school is going to grow in size, but are a response to the current need.

Eltham College are also seeking to establish a permanent Bursary Foundation to secure the provision of means-tested bursaries. Our aim is to maintain and hopefully increase both the level of support and the number of pupils to whom we are able to offer bursaries. Without this help many would be unable to benefit from the start in life afforded by an Eltham College education.

Plans have been drawn up and approved by Bromley Council and over the last 18 months we have been seeking support for the project; we are delighted that we now have over £3 million pledged towards it. Work on Phase 1, the Science Block extension, has already commenced. We hope that, with help from the Eltham College Community, we will be able to begin work on the next phase in the very near future.

This is a major development for Eltham College, following those supported by previous generations of Old Elthamians and Parents from which our current pupils benefit, such as the Antony Barnard Hall, the Eric Liddell Sports Centre and the Junior School teaching wing.

If you have any questions about the project, or would like to become involved in helping us acheive our aims or would simply like to talk to the Development Office in person, we can be contacted on 0208 851 9840. Alternatively, if you would like to email us and arrange a time for us to call you back, please contact Elthamians@eltham-college.org.uk

Please explore the various items of the drop down menu under Centenary Campaign next to the Headmaster's Welcome, which include a computer animation of the building, previous projects and why we need your help in realising the next step in the development of Eltham College.
