Eltham College Archives

On Sunday 2 July Elthamians were able to see the splendid new Eltham College Archive display area in the Old Library.  The area has been redesigned with a lockable glass front and lighting, allowing rare items to be put on show, such as George Band’s book with all the Everest signatures from 1953.  The intention is that some of the display will be more or less permanent, with other sections being replaced now and then in line with anniversaries or topical events.

The photo shows OE Peter Cheshire and Andrew Sentance.  Peter retires this summer after teaching German and latterly RS here for 27 years.  Andrew gave Peter’s leaving speech after the opening of the archives.

OEs who wish to do their own research in the School Magazines of yesteryear can now do so via https://elthamians.net/archives/elthamians-digital-archive

The magazines have been digitised and are fully searchable.  You may find some of the options a little confusing at first but if you follow the instructions on the opening page (“Welcome to our school’s archives”) you should be able to have hours of fun looking up the good old days.
